A Study in Southeast Asian Artworks

Untitled (2010), Yunizar, 2010, Oil on canvas, 200 x 300 cm

Following on from Land Before our Time, this showcase drawn from a private collection presents a diverse and intriguing range of paintings, drawings, lacquer works and other media produced in Singapore and the region. With a handful of historical works and the majority of modern artworks, this study of Southeast Asian artworks explores the different artistic languages imbibed then rearticulated by various artists past and present in Southeast Asia and Asia at large. The unique ability of such artworks to convey textures and feelings unlike any other place or region is often underexplored and underrated. This display of rarely seen works will present a sensuous composition of key artists within the region. With our experiences all too often numbed by the sheer speed and reification of contemporary life and imageries, this exhibition aims to invigorate our sense and sensibility, and revitalise our spirits.

Venue: The Ngee Ann Kongsi Galleries 1 & 2, NAFA, 80 Bencoolen Street, Singapore 189655

When: 8 Feb - 14 Mar 2018, 11am - 7pm (Closed every Monday and Public Holiday.)
