Step back in time to the magical kingdom of ancient Egypt from 1 to 6 June 2018 as the Singapore Lyric Opera proudly presents Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida – one of the most famous operas in the world – to Singapore.
Aida takes place in ancient Egypt. An Ethiopian princess, Aida, is captured in Egypt. She betrays her true identity and is now a slave to Amneris, the Egyptian King’s daughter. Aida and Radamès, an Egyptian general, are secretly in love but he is betrothed to Amneris. When Radamès leads an army against Ethiopia, Aida is forced to weigh her heart against her responsibility as the leader of her people. Will their love transcend the differences between their warring nations?
Aida is a four-act opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni. Famed for its brilliant theatricality and with a score written for an Egyptian audience, theatregoers will be captivated by the soaring arias and rousing chorus numbers, the delightful dances, and the powerful performances. The compelling and raw emotions of Aida as she goes through her struggles and conflicts are one of the many highlights of the production as they reflect the composing genius of Verdi for portraying such heartfelt intimate emotions in a grand opera.
