Ota Fine Arts launches an exhibition in the Online Viewing Room featuring Akira the Hustler and Nobuaki Takekawa.
The two artists share a common drive in expressing their thoughts on social and political issues in Japan and around the world. They convey their views through two channels that sometimes overlap: participation in street protests as well as their individual art creation. Explore the metaphors and messages within the works of Akira and Takekawa through this presentation!
Their artworks depict figurative motifs which may appear to be “pop” and “cute” at first glance, easing recognition amongst the crowds in protests. However, their playful images are not only for visual pleasure. They also function as metaphors to convey messages related to democracy and human rights. The activities of both artists often expand beyond conventional art spaces to reach wider audiences, crossing social and geographical boundaries.
