From 21st to 23rd January 2022, art and culture lovers can look forward to AliWALL Festival 2022: The Dreamer, a culmination of participative art experiences that redefine the walls – both physical and metaphorical, as canvases to unite artists and audiences closer to collectively consider what urban living is, now and for the future. Presented by Arts House Limited and curated by Tulika Ahuja, this weekend-only showcase brings contrasting worlds of fantasy and reality, both indoors and outdoors to Aliwal Arts Centre (AAC). An inspiring line-up of local artists will be showcasing their artworks and skills through the different Festival programmes, located and displayed at the indoor and outdoor spaces of around AAC.
Highlights include Reality in Construction, a participatory outdoor narrative-driven mural inspired by urban living featuring works by local artists Spaz, TraseOne, Has.J, Kristal Melson and Slacsatu. Get ready to be transported to a stimulating and surreal escape as Permission to Dream will offer visitors an immersive, multi-sensory experience featuring an array of fantasy-filled digital art, performances, set designs and sounds that will give one the permission to dream unbound. Featured performers Ammar “Ameezy”, Sandhya Suresh, Sonia Kwek and Tysha Khan will be in character as part of the 4D experience in rotation. The Courtyard will feature a larger-than-life inflatable sculpture designed by Howie Kim, as an intervention in AAC’S courtyard. Take part in D’Tour by RSCLS, an alternative walking tour of the street art iconic to present-day Kampong Gelam. Mixtape v2.0 invites members of the public to contribute music and song titles to a sonic collage of Kampong Gelam and create a cacophonic mixtape of this distinct neighbourhood.
