Allegories & Identities: Eko Nugroho, Entang Wiharso & Heri Dono is STPI’s first Indonesian group-show featuring specially selected works in print and paper in collaboration with the STPI Creative Workshop. The exhibition surveys the multifarious symbols, expressions, and unconventional modes employed by prominent Indonesian artists Eko Nugroho, Entang Wiharso and Heri Dono in their rendering of socio-political climates and cultural identities.
Enclosed within the cacophony of allegories and carnival-esque iconography are opulent narratives and critical social commentary on issues of power and politics, identity and Euro-centricism that not only challenge notions of contemporary Indonesian art, but human nature as a whole. Ultimately, these works are a critique on matters that resonate with global citizens – in a visual language that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries.
