Art Day Out! – a Gillman Barracks Saturday open house – returns on 25 June for a special School Holidays Edition! Families can look forward to fun-filled art activities for the little ones, in addition to the galleries’ new exhibitions and special programmes by Gillman Barracks tenants for the adults!
Children’s Theatre ‘The Squirrel & the Katak’
Sweet Tooth, the education and outreach arm of local theatre group Cake Theatre, will present a specially commissioned interactive children’s theatrical performance. The play draws on Gillman Barracks’ history as a military barracks, school, and its current role as Singapore’s visual arts precinct narrated through the eyes of its squirrel and katak (frog) inhabitants. [2 sessions at 3pm and 5pm. Free admission, no registration required. Suitable for children aged 5 and above. Adults are welcome too.]
Children’s Activities at Art Outreach, Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity and Timbre
At Art Outreach’s Art Explorers workshop, children will have an opportunity to create a tote bag printed with their very own design, or experiment with creative painting activities under the guidance of artist, Merryn Trevethan. [2pm to 6pm. No booking required. Free drop-in activities for children aged 7 – 12 accompanied by an adult.]
Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity (CCC) will offer 20% off ticket prices for its new exhibition, Hideaways – Creating with Nature. This immersive experience invites children to explore, observe, construct, reflect, innovate and engage with nature and natural materials through hands-on exhibits and interactive artists’ installations. Free art activities will also be conducted at the outdoor plaza outside the CCC. [2 to 6pm. $16 per child, allows free entry for an accompanying adult.]
After the art workshops, fuel up at the Kidlympics Edition of Timbre’s Saturday Social BBQ where the little ones can compete to see who is the fastest in the Speed Relay games! There will also be bouncy castles, wading pools for toddlers, live BBQ, live music, cold beers and other fringe arts & crafts activities. [4pm till late.]
Family-friendly Programmes at the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) Singapore
NTU CCA Singapore will host curator-led tours of the exhibition SEA STATE by artist Charles Lim Yi Yong which was commissioned for the Singapore Pavilion for the 56th Venice Biennale. It will also present a variety of short animations made by the students of NTU School of Art, Media and Design (ADM). Kids and teens can also learn how to make their own soda pop in a fermentation workshop with Artist-in-Residence Julian ‘Togar’ Abraham.
