Art Moves IV – ARTPOD

Ann Jessica Chan

Art Moves IV – ARTPOD opens on 13 December 2018 with works by 14 recent BA(Hons) Fine Arts graduates from LASALLE College of the Arts. Two of them – Gerald Tay and Amirah Raudhah Razali – are recipients of the tcc-LASALLE Artist-Curator Alumni Award. Each will receive a $25,000 sponsorship from tcc, and curate the fourth edition of the Art Moves project under the mentorship of Dr S. Chandrasekaran, Head of LASALLE’s McNally School of Fine Arts.

“This year’s theme of ARTPOD aims to nurture people’s appreciation of art. In an environment such as a cafe, people are able to encounter and interact with art in a very accessible manner, thereby dispelling the notion that art is only for certain individuals,” shared Gerald.

Art Moves began as a project between LASALLE and The Connoisseur Concerto (tcc) in 2015 to enable people to encounter art outside of a traditional gallery setting, and to give fresh art graduates an opportunity to establish their names. Season III marked the most successful yet, with 8 artworks sold by the end of the one-year exhibition.

“We are heartened by the response our alumni have received from the public. Such support is crucial in an artist’s formative years, when they are just establishing their practice. At LASALLE, we create opportunities to help our students and alumni kickstart their careers,” said Dr Chandrasekaran.

To further broaden the perspective of patrons, each tcc outlet will be centred around a different subject and feature specific artists. For instance, winner of Chan+Davies Art Prize 2018, Dipali Gupta, will showcase two of her works at tcc Ion Orchard where the focus is on Digital Spaces. Said works are part of her acclaimed O Her! Series that explores worldly desires through recreated vanitas. Another example is Leslie Low’s drawings and documentation of flowers, and these can be discovered at tcc Circular Road, where the theme is Forever and a Day.

Other engaging activities to look forward to within Art Moves IV include workshops on embroidery, printmaking, and painting – the details of which will be released in early 2019. For this festive season though, patrons can enjoy 10% off any artworks at participating tcc outlets.
