Dr Chng Nai Wee will share his insights on the ideas and process behind “Body Works”, his latest series of mixed-media paintings that are currently on display in “Juxtaposition”, an exhibition which includes fellow Singaporean artist, Baet Yeok Kuan. He will discuss the progression of his works from past to present, and how his personal background in art, science and opthalmology has influenced his artistic practise. “Body Works” demonstrates his fascination and exploration of new materials and mediums, together with his profound studies of the human body. In this series, he fleshes out the human body both anatomically and histologically, in various poses and positions stemming from historical, futuristic and fantasy contexts. The talk also includes a discussion on the “Eye of the Artist”, in which he will be talking about the science behind the human eye and how it perceives art.
“Juxtaposition” is part of Singapore Art Week (11 – 22 January 2017). A joint initiative by the National Arts Council, the Singapore Tourism Board and the Singapore Economic Development Board, Singapore Art Week reinforces Singapore’s position as Asia’s leading arts destination.
