Hôtel Vagabond announces Spanish artist, Alba Escayo, as its first visual Artist-in-Residence. Milan-based Escayo will reside in one of the hotel’s specially configured Artist Ateliers from the 8th to the 18th of November 2015, and a selection of her works will be showcased in the hotel’s Salon space for an intimate Artists’ Talk, which will be held Monday 16th November. Escayo’s residency coincides with the sixth Autumn edition of the Affordable Art Fair in Singapore, where she will also be exhibiting.
While Escayo’s work is driven mainly by subjects that inspire her rather than any one medium, she is drawn to the inherent mutability of ink. A previous visit to Singapore inspired a mixed-medium series as an homage to the country. As a passionate advocate of the arts, Escayo has also developed several art education cooperation programmes for traditionally excluded communities in Spain, Italy and India.
As a finale to the Affordable Art Fair, Escayo will be joined by two Singaporean artists from local artist-run institution INSTINC Art – Founder Yeo Shih Yun and Artist-in-Residence Coordinator Eunice Lim – with all three showcasing and discussing their works during the Artists’ Talk. The talk will be free and open to the public, providing a platform for audiences and artists to freely engage with each other.
