Vincent Van Gogh, Bedroom in Arles
The exhibition includes a 3D replica of of Van Gogh’s painting Bedroom in Arles. The furniture in the room, the bed, table and chair have been custom-made to look alike those from the painting he painted in oil on canvas titled, Bedroom at Arles just before he went to stay at the lunatic asylum in 1888.
The ironically cheerful painting using Van Gogh’s hallmark bright colours shows the artist’s need for a niche of his own in life where he could feel safe. The painting of the walls and the pictures hanging from them are created with the supervision of veteran Singapore watercolourist Lee Choon Kee and wooden flooring as seen in the original masterpiece done by NBL Express.
Besides this “showroom” piece, ArtRoom this year also features an exhibition of works by an impressive line-up of Singapore’s top artists including Cultural Medallion recipients Tan Kian Por, Lee Hock Moh and Tan Choh Tee. The others are Lee Choon Kee, Keoh Sia Yong and Ang Hiong Chiok.
