As Big as the Sun is the debut solo exhibition of Chayanich Muangthai, also known as Seafear. Seafear, born in Bangkok in 1987 and based in Nakhon Pathom, is fascinated by the tactile qualities of paint and its ability to convey her message of the beauty of change and belonging. Her paintings create an illusion of motion and transformation, featuring heavily layered acrylic and polymer applied with modified piping bags, construction tools, and her hands. Seafear’s signature technique produces nuanced metaphors of the human condition, with compositions ranging from floral to Thai landscapes. Her experimentation with acrylic paints and polymers showcases a commitment to pushing beyond the boundaries of traditional painting techniques. Using nature as a metaphor, Seafear aims to convey a sense of vulnerability and desire for change, reflecting her personal struggles with societal structures that limit freedoms. The exhibition offers a unique approach to painting, expanding the artist’s commentary on Thai society through the blending of beauty, resilience, and a message of resistance.
