Taking the familiarity of Ikea’s AS-IS sale section as a framework, the audience visits the exhibition to encounter artworks “as it is” — an aesthetic encounter that seems to capture the moment of the fabrication process. This show highlights the many leftovers from actual fabrication projects at a metalworking shop, refurbished, reframed, reactivated as artwork to suggest its meaning. Like an Ikea furniture that is done being a display at its showroom, it goes into this AS-IS section, hoping to gain a second life.
Four fabricators come together to explore the nature of art, the relationship between our craft and our manufacturing productions. This project is in collaboration with Darren Mok, Jacqueline Sim, Matthias Yong, Tay Ining & Fellow Design, alongside audiences, at Toa Payoh Industrial Park. All artworks in this show are provided “AS IS,” without warranty of any kind or guarantee of merchantability.
