Queen Supayalat, Acrylic & Spray on canvas, 91 x 61 cm, 2014
While Wunna Aung is passionate about the historical past of his country, Thu Myat is a science fiction enthusiast. “Back to the Future” operates like a time travel machine. Wunna Aung invites the viewer to discover the last dynasty of Burma in the style and colours of Andy Warhol, with a pinch of gold to perfectly suit the kings, queens and princess of Burma, known as “the Golden Land”. For his part, Thu Myat modernizes the traditional Guardians, which protect the entrance of the Burmese Pagodas and humorously depicts a cosmonaut reaching the 7th Heaven of the Buddhist faith. The
colourful and playful artworks are skillfully designed to please the eyes and stretch the minds.
Part of Art Week 2019, “Back to the Future” echoes “Playing Time & Space” by Wunna Aung, Thu Myat and Bart Was Not Here, which starts on 17th January at Intersections Gallery and runs until 18 February 2019.
