Malaysian-born Kim Hai Lim is a graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Lim is known for his iconic large-scale canvases of apples that offer a visual narrative of his observations of human behaviour that in turn, invite contemplation. The careful orchestration of objects, colour, vertical and horizontal planes create both depth and surface, where the continuity of the elements offers a visual encounter that is rich in emotional force and inventiveness. This homecoming exhibition for the artist is a culmination of his artistic endeavours over 3 decades. It is an exhibition that showcases his early works in the 1980s as influenced by a Parisian classical style, and includes street scenes of Malacca where he lives and works today.
