With growing concern about climate change and its threats on the planet and people, SYPA 2018 was revamped to raise awareness and cultivate stronger interest among youths in humanity and the environment. The United Nations (UN) adopted the Sustainable Development Agenda in 2015, where the world committed to achieving 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, to promote prosperity while protecting the planet and its people. Governments, companies and civil society have taken up the mantle of the Goals to do their part in ensuring a socially and environmentally sustainable future.
In view of this, SYPA 2018 invited young photographers to submit body of work capturing their ideas on UN SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Aligned with CDL’s corporate ethos of ‘Conserving as we Construct’ and commitment to youth development, this edition of SYPA aims to unearth talents who will champion sustainable development using their photographic works.
On top of a total of $16,200 cash prizes, only 12 finalists are selected to have their photographs exhibited at DECK.
