
2019 marks the celebration of a list of arts centennials. Corcovado Arts has selected two artists and two art institutions to commemorate. The comprehensive film/talk sessions will review the life and work of two extraordinary European Masters and two great institutions that have helped define the history of art.
3 July: Leonardo da Vinci
The session will explore the life and achievements of this polymath, discussing his most iconic paintings and exploring his other achievements in science and engineering. The Renaissance genius died 500 years ago leaving behind one of Europe’s richest legacies in the many disciplines he mastered.
7 July: Rembrandt van Rijn
Rembrandt, who epitomised the Golden Age of Dutch art, died 350 years ago. His life and work will be discussed in the second lecture, alongside the great achievements of the Dutch Golden Age in which new art genres emerged that changed the development of western art.
17 July: Museo del Prado
The third session will introduce the history and holdings of the internationally renowned Prado Museum in Madrid, which was founded 200 years ago.
24 July: Bauhaus
The German Bauhaus art and design school, which was founded in 1919, came to represent everything that was ‘modern’ in art, design and architecture.
