SCCC and National Art Council will be jointly organising Chinese Opera in Singapore, an exhibition that explores the evolution of local Chinese opera. Supported by SCCC arts tenant Nam Hwa Opera, part of the exhibition will present the localisation and development of Teochew opera in Singapore.
The exhibition consists of 4 portions:
1. Chinese Opera Today — Looking at how Chinese opera has transformed to remain relevant to a contemporary audience and what it is now.
2. Traditional Chinese Opera Wooden Stage — Showcasing the remarkable set-up of a Chinese opera show, which allows it to be easily assembled and disassembled in hours.
3. Chinese Opera Virtual Reality Experience — An immersive journey from backstage to the performance area to learn the behind-the-scenes of a performance.
4. Part of the exhibition will present the localisation and development of Teochew opera in Singapore, with content contributed from Nam Hwa Opera’s first travelling exhibition.
