City Of Life is a contemporary art exhibition brought to you by Fine Artist Samantha Redfern. Born in England and raised in a rural environment where woodlands, green fields and grazing sheep are more common place than high rise buildings.
Moving to Singapore as an adult with two children in tow, Samantha was enamoured with the sight of Singapore. So beautiful and different to the world she was used to, she found herself (after a long hiatus from the practice) compelled to start painting again.
Buildings and structures surrounded by plants, colourful flowers and lush canopies of green branches had her both fascinated and inspired. Her popular Cityscape Collection was born featuring stylised buildings emerging from collapsing lush greenery.
As time moved on and Samantha spent more time living/travelling in Asia, she began to encompass more of Asia’s pop culture and street art into her work. She enjoyed the freedom of expression this painting style allowed which drove her forward to experiment further with textures and mediums, discovering new parts of her creativity and imagination in the process.
Having started a love affair with a more Graffiti/expressionistic style she began to wonder what the result would be if she combined her two styles. The Graffiti City Collection was born. These complex, layered paintings take weeks to complete. Objects can be found on these works creating texture and personality.
