Commedia Dell’Arte is a form of traditional Italian theatre, often regarded as the father of contemporary comedy. It is a highly specialised form of theatre that is taught only by few. Actors of Commedia Dell’Arte must possess great physicality, the ability to improvise, and impeccable timing.
This masterclass will examine in detail one of the funniest masks in Commedia Dell’Arte – The Servant. In this workshop, students will learn the basic structures of comedy, analyze themes of comicality, as well as embody the Zanni masks. Students will graduate as versatile and intuitive performers, with a flair for expressing comedy non-verbally and using the whole body.
Registration closes: 7 September 2016
