Two-Day Workshop in Singapore with Mahir Yavuz of R/GA
Die Gestalten announce an upcoming two-day workshop with data visualization expert Mahir Yavuz in Singapore. As the current creative director of Data Science and Visualization at R/GA, which was named 2015 Agency of the Year by Cannes Lions and AdAge, Yavus is a seasoned veteran at designing and developing interactive visualizations with a focus on communication, complexity, and elegance. In this workshop, he will impart both the theoretical framework and the practical know-how that one needs in order to develop a visual representation from an idea into a data-driven solution.
The course is structured around the utilitarian use of data visualizations built on the principles of data science. Alongside a substantial selection of projects, key publications such as Envisioning Information and Data Flow: Visualizing Information in Graphic Design will serve as inspiration.
Over the course of two days, each participant will produce a presentation targeting a fictional brand as well as a prototype of their proposed solution. Key themes such as data-driven design, information aesthetics, and the semiology of graphics will be introduced in a lecture, and further discussions will review how brands formulate ideas to use in data-driven systems as well as an overview of which methods of visual representation might be the most appropriate to express a range of datasets.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
– Use common tools and software in the data visualization field
– Identify the appropriate data-driven solution for a dataset
– Extract and contextualize open data from various resources
– Conduct a Data Discovery and UX Workshop for clients
– Troubleshoot problems that large companies often face
