Donna Ong presents the history of image-making towards the “tropics” in Singapore through an interpretative synthesis of scientific journals and travelogues composed in colonial times. The installation is a landscape that would define the imaginary illustrations of the tropics and would present an “alternative” colonial site prompted by 18th and 19th century books and manuscripts, excerpts from diaries written in colonial Singapore among others.
