Dadi Setiyadi, Undefined Superlove, 200 x 150 cm, acrylic on canvas
ETERNITY: A Return to Renaissance is the platform through which Dadi explores various notions of love. 12 large-scale paintings are peopled with surreal and imaginary histories, which he has regularly summoned to populate his complex rich oeuvre. Dadi’s reactionary gesture of relaunching a visual language by drawing on old European masters, which coexisted during periods when there were the needs to give expression to myths, is equally revealing within all the same complexities of human nature.
Dadi Setiyadi, an Indonesian born in 1977, is a multi-talented artist who has held several international solo and group exhibitions throughout Asia, Europe and the USA. Dadi is inspired by the symbol of the Archipelago through an Indonesian folklore project more than a decade ago. He discovered a connection to this fantastical and mystical world whereby such influences began creating a particular syncretism in his art, through combining traditional local elements inspired from environment, living traditions, with modern and contemporary subjects.
