‘Exposed’ is a captivating solo exhibition featuring the work of renowned, resin artist François Bel. With an evocative theme centered around nostalgia and memorabilia, the French artist invites us on a mesmerizing journey through time and memory. After 3 years of representation, REDSEA Gallery is excited to be showcasing his latest collection.
Bel is known for creating flawless illusions of suspension using crystal clear resin in which he seemingly freezes deconstructed found objects and antiques. He ingeniously and aptly works with the medium and gives exciting new form to memorabilia such as vintage watches, alarm clocks and film cameras. He carefully dismantles them into individual fragments, ultimately transforming fleeting memories into enduring works of art. Each unique piece evokes a sense of familiarity yet wonder, the artist encourages the audience to reflect on the changing nature of time and how objects can become bearers of memory.
Bel’s sculptures take inspiration from cultural influences and personal experiences but he also draws from the Street Art and Pop Art movements for their bright colours, humour and arresting subject matter. The famous Dada artist Marcel Duchamp’s thought provoking ‘ready-mades’ that subvert daily objects in order to criticize today’s consumer society also appeal to Bel, this is clear in his use of vintage trinkets to retro relics.
This new body of work will not only include some of Bel’s famous masterpieces, but also discover a diverse collection of thoughtfully curated sculptures that celebrate the art of collecting and the beauty of the object. From delicate figurines to out-of-theway antiques, each piece is imbued with a unique story and nostalgic spirit.
François Bel’s work is internationally acclaimed and is held in many private collections. Bel has exhibited in Tokyo, Paris, New York, Monaco, and for the first time, now in Singapore as well.
