In this Chinese New Year season, Mizuma Gallery kickstart the year with a new exhibition titled FAD Democracy. The exhibition takes on a fresh point of view of the term ‘democracy’ today, in social as well as political context. One of the topic explored by the artist were the use of new media in the political field that suddenly expanded the term ‘democracy’. Creating a generation that crash course in politics. The new generation of ‘social media politicians’ easily move people through their facebook, twitter, youtube and instagram campaign. Comparing to the 1998 Reformation era, democracy was fueled by active protest and even violence, yet the result of this so called democracy is not as fast as what is happening in the political scene today.
The exhibition invites few artists from Indonesia to make a survey on democracy in practical level, to observe the trends, the fashion and the fads. FAD Democracy features 12 artworks from 9 artists, curated by Mia Maria, one of the curators of Singapore Bienalle 2014.
