Yang Yongliang’s multi-disciplinary practice examines cultural and personal memory by highlighting moments of alignment—and discord—between the two. Central to the exhibition is the film of the same name, making its debut in Southeast Asia. Dressed in Kendo armour, the protagonist chases after the tripedal raven’s guide, taking the audience on a journey through a timeless dreamscape. Through his photography and video, the artist exploits a connection between the traditional and contemporary world, implementing ancient classical literati aesthetics with digital language and techniques. The exhibition also sees the artist’s return to painting, alongside a selection of past works.
Opening Talk: 2 April 2016, 2.30 – 4.30pm
