This Chinese New Year, which starts on 8 February 2016, marks the Year of the Monkey. In celebration, the Asian Civilisations Museum presents a display of gibbons by Chen Wen Hsi 陈文希 (Guangdong 1906–1991 Singapore). Chen is famous for his representation of these playful primates. His legacy as one of Singapore’s pioneer artists is commemorated on the back of Singapore’s $50 note, which features his painting Two Gibbons Amidst Vines.
