Up and coming Singaporean artist Faris Heizer showcases his first solo exhibition ‘Passengers’ at SPRMRKT at Cluny Court from 29 June to 11 October 2020. His paintings are process driven, with an expressive and dispersed approach that produces curious narratives organically. Their beauty and rawness can be appreciated by anyone, from arts enthusiasts to novices, lining up perfectly with
SPRMRKT’s vision of making art accessible to all.
‘Passengers’ expresses relatable or familiar narratives and situations. Approaching his works through storytelling and automatic painting, Faris’s painting process becomes a form of language, and his paintings the story. He interweaves his sporadic painting process with meta-narratives, bringing forward the flux of interplay between composition and pictorial space.
Each of his seven pieces feature caricatured figures that draws attention to the artificiality of his painting’s narratives, with the figures existing in an abject reality ruled by its own logic and boundaries. Some pieces are also inspired by pop culture pieces, such as fictional novels and old cartoon shows.
