Kanchana Gupta’s practice yokes materiality with process and this is both the impetus and structure behind most of her works. Her practice is strongly influenced by and reacts to urban spaces especially those spaces of transition like construction sites, industrial areas and temporary dwellings. The latest series is her homage to the tarpaulin, which is a ubiquitous object, in the urban slums of her native India as well as in the gentrified skyscrapers of the place where she lives now.
