Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) presents Gala Concert 2017: Unrequited Love on 23 November 2017 at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Be drawn into a heart-stirring evening of jealousy, passion, and unrequited love from opera classics and favourites such as Bizet’s Carmen, Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Verdi’s Aida.
Leading the orchestra is multi-talented Jason Lai, a stellar light in the new generation of conductors. The Principal Conductor of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra and also the Associate Conductor for Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Jason has a myriad of conducting experiences worldwide in different orchestras, and has assisted and trained under many master conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev throughout his career.
In addition to performances by renowned singers such as Jessica Chen (soprano) and Kee Loi Seng (tenor), the concert also features winners from the inaugural SLO-Asean Vocal Competition 2016: grand prize winner, mezzosoprano Samantha Ying-zing Chong from Malaysia who is also the champion of the 41st National Singing Competition of Malaysia, first runner-up, soprano Pham Kanh Ngoc from Vietnam, who was recently invited to perform at the 4th and 5th Peace Concert with Prime Philharmonic Orchestra in Seoul and Incheon, Korea as well as second runner-up, Singaporean baritone, Alvin Tan.
The gala concert will also feature rising stars from the SLO – Leow Siak Fah Artists Training Programme hailing from Singapore, China and Japan. “We are delighted to include young talents from our performance-based training programme,” commented Nancy Yuen, Artistic Director of SLO. “These singers were selected through demanding auditions and underwent a very comprehensive training programme. They are definitely the rising stars to look out for”.
Rounding up this magical night will be performances from the Singapore Lyric Opera Chorus and the Singapore Lyric Opera Children’s Choir.
