Global Art Forum: I Am Not A Robot

Global Art Forum: ‘I Am Not A Robot’ is a series of transdisciplinary events that explores the power, paranoia and potentials of automation.

Developed in collaboration with Art Dubai, ‘I Am Not a Robot’ will examine the opportunities, complexities and trepidations of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, networked systems and robotics through the work and ideas of artists, curators, writers, filmmakers, scientists, technologists and futurists.

A key highlight of this special event is a three-day international conference (21 – 23 Sep) which will see an exciting panel of 20 speakers congregating in Singapore to discuss different approaches to AI – globally and in Singapore – and reveal how the widespread intricacies of automation are transforming our future.

Other programmes include a one-night only performance by New York-based artist and researcher Sougwen Chung at ArtScience Late on 20 Sep, as well as a special presentation of films by three artists and filmmakers from Africa, United States and the Middle East as part of ArtScience on Screen.

Previous iterations of this summit were programmed by Shumon Basar (Commissioner) with Noah Raford and Marlies Wirth (Co-directors), and took place in Dubai in February 2018 and at Art Dubai in March 2018.

Speakers include Shumon Basar (Commissioner of the Global Art Forum in Dubai); Noah Raford (Chief Operating Officer & Futurist-in-Chief of the Dubai Future Foundation and Co-Director of Global Art Forum); Marlies Wirth (Curator of Digital Culture & Design Collection at the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna and Co-Director of Global Art Forum), Jessica Bland (Head of Research at the Dubai Future Foundation); Wei Qing (CTO of Microsoft China); Elie Ayache (Co-founder and CEO of ITO33); Ania Soliman (Paris/New York-based interdisciplinary artist); Wesley Goatley (sound artist and Associate Lecturer in Interaction Design Communication at London College of Communication, University of the Arts), Louis-Philippe Demers (Singapore-based robotic artist); Wong Tien Yin (Medical Director of Singapore National Eye Centre and Deputy Group CEO of Research & Education at SingHealth); Sara M. Watson (Writer, technology critic and an affiliate with the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University) and more.

Venue: ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands, Expression Gallery, Level 4

Admission: free via online pre-registration on a first-come-first-served basis, subject to availability.
