From putting together a broken toothbrush from World War II, to repairing the stitching on a delicate swath of batik, the National Heritage Board’s conservators have their work cut out for them. Operating with a light-touch approach, they mend, replicate and restore artefacts from our National Collection, ensuring all works conducted are necessary, reversible and recorded.
Join us on a guided tour of the Heritage Conservation Centre in Jurong as our team of conservators walks you through their process, peppering their sharings with their own experiences hunched over great rolls of ancient textiles and scrolls, and historic everyday objects. The goal? Protect them from being further ravaged by the passing of time. The tour includes a peek into some of the treasures in the centre’s storehouses and a window into the state-of-the-art conservation technology and practices in play.
