With his interest in the art of portraiture and almost obsessive fascination with cult personalities, which range from writers from the Beat Generation like Jack Kerouac, to dead rock stars from the ’27 Club’ like Kurt Kobain, this show is part of an ongoing series of exhibitions which Joseph Chiang has been working on for the past two years. The exhibition showcases over a hundred works in various forms of printmaking, including linocut, woodcut and silkscreen prints.
Part pop art, part portraiture, ‘Heroes + Villains’ pays tribute to the lost art of the portraiture through the art of printmaking. The show features an eclectic mix of portraits of the famous and infamous. Portraits of iconic (and heroic) figures like pop stars and great authors are displayed alongside notorious (and villainic) figures like some of history’s worst dictators in this exhibition.
The exhibition is presented by Monster Gallery.
