This retrospective exhibition of Yeo’s oeuvre at MoCA is not only a celebration of the 81 years old maestro’s artistic mastery and achievement, but more importantly, a tribute for his perseverance and determination in courageously pioneering and promoting abstract art in Singapore. He returned from Europe to Singapore as a teacher and has since then been actively planting the seeds of Abstractionism in the region. His significant contribution to the development of local contemporary art is undisputable. Yeo once mentioned that his life, without art, would be incomplete. For the case of Singapore and the South-East Asian art, the terrain would certainly be incomplete without Yeo Hoe Koon.
The exhibition will feature both his oil and ink paintings selected from his years of practice including some recent works. It is an unmissable event for art students, artists, art lovers, art collectors and the general public alike to appreciate the works of the pride of Singapore.
