In this recent project, Filipino artist Victor Balanon retells La Jetee by the symbolic act of performing the role of an unreliable narrator whose attempt to transcribe a classic is mired by a compromised archive of images and a faulty memory. Presented in a sequence of 75 ink drawings, the reverse transcription–finished film translated into storyboard–underscores the themes explored in the original film and is also a commentary on contemporary concerns regarding authorship and originality, fact and truth, and the appropriation of images in culture and history in general.
