“I would recommend this workshop to friends and family – particularly those who are interested in Japanese culture and those who are looking to try something new and different.” – Aileen Lim, Singapore.
Want to experience Japanese woodblock the easy way? Join Australian-Peranakan artist Jennifer Lim for a fun evening at LUDO Gallery creating multiple colour prints – without the hefty carving! Participants can choose from a number of blocks inspired by Victorian tiles – a prominent feature in Peranakan architecture.
Students will create a set of prints using specially-designed pre-carved blocks and get hands-on chance to proof and print on professional grade washi paper. This unique workshop is perfect for beginner students wanting maximum results in minimum time!
Register here on Peatix – limited no. of persons per class
The workshop will also demonstrate traditional techniques used in this 400-year-old craft including image transfer and carving. Water-based and non-toxic, Japanese woodblock printing is great for creating unique prints at home. ‘Mokuhanga’ as it is called in Japanese, this fascinating artform is best known in ‘ukiyoe’ prints.
No experience is necessary and all tools and materials are provided. Create a beautiful set of prints to frame or give to friends as a memory of Singapore!
