This exhibition shows the significant roles of ceramics in utilitarian art of the Song (960 – 1279) and Yuan (1279 – 1368) Dynasties. With a population of about 100 million, the Song Dynasty witnessed a vibrant economy and a flowering of the arts, and major kilns were active in many regions. This continued almost seamlessly into the Yuan Dynasty, which also produced wares imbued with their cultural diversity.
The exhibits focus on three distinct categories:
• TEA AND WINE
• SCHOLAR’S STUDIO
• HOUSEHOLD
Featuring 200 exhibits from SCCS members’ collections, it is the second of a two-part exhibition, after ‘Kaleidoscope in Clay (I) – Glazes and Forms through Five Thousand Years of Chinese Ceramics’. These exhibitions celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Society for Chinese Ceramics Studies (SCCS).
