Kontemporari 2017 will showcase works by members of the Association of Artists of Various Resources, otherwise known as Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (APAD). The exhibition is a survey of Malay artists practicing in Singapore.
The objective is to showcase the works of members and to promote art to the masses. It also creates an opportunity for artists to interact and inspire one another despite the age difference or varied genre of work within the APAD fraternity. From this year onwards, the exhibition will be open to participation by non-members of APAD. The artists included ranges from students to established artists.
To inspire greater art-practice, artworks on display will be judged by the curatorial committee. The awards will be presented at the opening ceremony to deserving winners for the first to third place, for the ‘Best of Show’ awards. An exhibition catalogue featuring selected work and artist’s particulars will be produced. As per APAD’s tradition, three guest artists will be invited to join the exhibition. The other objective is to raise funds for the association and encourage art acquisition.
This annual exhibition reflects the diversity in art practices and approaches of the multi-generation membership inspired by APAD’s long history.
