Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery presents a special solo exhibition Lim Tze Peng – National Icon. Centenarian featuring Lim Tze Peng, one of Singapore’s most prominent and oldest living master artists, who is also a Meritorious Service Medal and Cultural Medallion recipient. In this showcase, comprehensive works by Lim will be on display coupled with a catalogue featuring over 100 paintings.
Lim is a self-taught artist whose works reflect a deep understanding and focus on Chinese philosophy, art and culture. He is most recognised for his characteristic style of outlining his subjects in dark ink and expressive strokes before adding colour through ink or wash.
Having lived through Singapore’s developing years, Lim was deeply affected by the country’s rapid modernisation, and decided to document and capture the posterity of Singapore before it completely vanishes. This romanticism and devotion to tradition is apparent in his artworks. Lim is best known for his Chinese ink drawings of Chinatown and the Singapore River in the early 80s.
To date, Lim continues to push the boundaries and redefines what constitutes art in his creations.
