Artist and art educator Lim Yew Kuan is synonymous with NAFA as an iconic leading arts institution. He was educated at NAFA then went on to train at Chelsea Art College, London in 1958, returning to teach and practice in Singapore after his graduation. In later years, he served as NAFA’s principal for over 17 years. In 2011, he was awarded the highest national honour in the arts: the Cultural Medallion. This award is conferred for artistic excellence, commitment and unique contributions to shaping Singapore’s arts and cultural landscape. In this second solo exhibition at NAFA, 4 years after the award, the artist presents his more recent work. He also offers a rare glimpse into an archive of his unpublished earlier works, unfolding aspects of his training, practice and travels around Southeast Asia and the world.
