Manila Galleon: From Asia to the Americas is the first exhibition in Singapore to explore a trade across the Pacific that connected Asia to the Americas and Europe. For centuries, ships laden with porcelain, silk, ivory, spices, and other goods sailed annually across the Pacific from Manila to Acapulco, returning with millions of pieces of silver.
Through over 140 extraordinary works of art from the 16th to 20th century, Manila Galleon: From Asia to the Americas reveals how the movement of people, goods, and ideas through the Philippines and Mexico created a shared heritage across the seas. Visitors can look forward to rare and important objects on loan from prestigious international partners, from luxurious gold and silverwares to porcelain, featherworks, and furniture from across Asia. Stories of diverse communities are brought to life by immersive art installations and programmes, as visitors are invited to reflect on the global impact of port cities.
