Mise En Scéne presents a navigation of fascinations by the Level 2 BA(Hons) Fine Art students. This work-in-progress show embraces the intersections between nothingness and everything-ness, and offers a glimpse into the odyssey of the art-making process in different stages of rehearsal, research, play and experimentation. These artworks tango between the realms of possibilities and potencies.
Be it scribbling with a pen or sculpting with paper—the making of artworks is a familiar experience to many. As the students expand their pools of knowledge, a new lens through which they create and curate with clearer vision begins to forge. As its forms start to solidify, the portrayal of their attempts to orchestrate the chaotic process of art-making is presented in Mise En Scéne.
These erratic performers (the artists) waltz their way through a multitude of experimental media to reach their own self-defined summits. Mise En Scéne is an exhibition that honours the discomfort of the in-between, before the finalised artworks are realised, and pays tribute to the process of making and experimentation.
