Dominique Ingres, The Bather, 1808
This series will review the most important European visual arts movements of the 18th and 19th centuries. Starting with Neoclassicism, a movement that recaptured Greco-Roman grace and grandeur, the course will continue by examining the Romantic style that reacted to the social and political norms of the time. The movement known as Realism that celebrated the working class and paved the way for the Impressionists will conclude the survey.
