Naomi Hobson, June Sky, 210 x 210 cm, Acrylic on Linen
‘Notes from my Country’ is Naomi Hobson’s second full solo painting show with ReDot Fine Art Gallery, and its evolution has been delayed several times by the demands on Naomi’s time. Yet the work most certainly has not been affected adversely, indeed it seems pressure and a full calendar brings an extra focus and intensity in Naomi’s work.
Thirteen Acrylic on Linen artworks boldly exclaim the strides Naomi is making, thirteen reasons to take note of one of Australia’s most important Indigenous practitioners.
Naomi is one of the most recognised Indigenous artists in Australia, a strong advocate of culture and the empowerment of women rights in remote communities, as she uses her art to speak of inequality and the need for Indigenous voices to be heard and respected.
Over the last two years alone, Naomi has been involved in an ambitious tapestry project with the Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW), a major photographic project (on-going) with the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) as part of Tarnanthi and recently the launch of a new packaging programme with MECCA.
