'Seeds of Universe' 2019 by Gulten Imamoglu. Acrylic on canvas.
‘Nucleus’ is a solo exhibition by Turkish Artist Gulten Imamoglu. This powerful exhibition of dynamic and colourful work will feature twelve art pieces exploring the essence of life.
The artist manages to bring together dynamism of beauty with stability of death. Colours are not seen as real colours in her paintings, but as a vortex reminding us of a natural disaster. The painter is skilled enough to escape from us and to take shelter in her universe. She likes colour counter currents and she does not hesitate to shoot us with that gun.
Defining Gulten Imamoglu as an artist who attacks us with colours and defends herself with colours would not be wrong, as she uses them as an instrument for a hurtful sense, wonderful excitement, an idolized death and a liveable paradise. The paintings exalt an abstract language where figures are mixed by dancing, in a sense.
All beings in the universe consist of a nucleus that contains the secret of their existence: a seed. Humans, animals, and plants extend their lineage through this seed. As Anaxagoras said; “the fundamental elements of existence” are hidden in the divine coding of the seed. The sacredness of such a seed is underlined in all holy books. However, humanity has chosen to take power in their own hands. They wish to rule the world by changing the laws of the universe. Genetically modified organisms systematically alter the limits of this divine origin. The artist draws attention to the damage caused by these changes on humanity with her recent works. In this context, she raises the question: is playing with the secrets of existence a preparation for the end?
