In Huang Bingyin’s series of paintings, he invites the viewers in to reflect on both the interiority as well as the exteriority of the physical self, and of our delicate relationship with the world and nature, things that are usually beyond our natural comprehension. He achieves this sometimes through a clever and whimsical play of materials and perspectives – utilising structures and light boxes to create windows of seeing into the outside world by way of invoking our own inner thoughts and feelings. This poetic device enables viewers to connect with the notion of the “other” (exterior) through his gestural use of dimensions that are as probing as they are filmic – inviting us to contemplate, as well as to open up, to all of life’s subtlest, softest and most poignant moments that have always been there, but never perhaps, evoked more beautifully.
