Of Spaces and Phases dabbles into the fragments of historical remnants located at 66 Spottiswoode Park Road. Here, it situates the only visible limestone mural facade from the early 19th century. Located on Blair Plain Conservation area, the Early Shophouse style building retains many of its early features and relics. Amongst the street of old shophouses, the fresco stands out with its eye-catching colours, reminiscent of modern graffiti.
The exhibition site acts as a springboard for the participating artists to reflect, respond and work in situ to invigorate both tangible and intangible heritage merits into their works of art. The interior and exterior acts as a departure point for the visual artists to create conversational pieces that complement the loaded architectural site by assessing the effects of materiality, history and technology.
