Sehari selapis pewarna di kain, lama-lama jadi batik (A layer of colour on cloth a day, soon it will be a batik), Fajrina Razak, 2016-7. Image courtesy of Ben Yap.
Paying homage to traditional batik, the exhibition features the work of seven Singapore-based artists as they translate, juxtapose and amalgamate their works into elements of Batik – from the techniques, processes, materials, motifs and usage of fabric – in exploration of an art form considered obsolete and labour intensive in today’s modern times.
The show is curated by Fajrina Razak and the selected group includes a ceramist, illustrators, a wood-based artist, a photo-based artist, a performance artist and a printmaker. Featuring the works of Aklili Zakaria, Almostasthma, AmirahRau, Fajrina Razak, Lee Wan Xiang, Shane Ng and Yang Jie.
