Independent arts organisation OH! Open House is back with its signature art walk this March in Kampong Gelam. Curated by Alan Oei, Executive Director of OH! Open House, OH! Kampong Gelam will feature 11 artworks by notable contemporary Singapore artists, such as Jane Lee and Ezzam Rahman as well as internationally renowned Thai artist Ruangsak Anuwatwimon and Malaysia artist collective Pangrok Sulap.
With the theme of “Palimpsest”, OH! explores how the use of maps and master plans have repeatedly shaped this rich, storied neighbourhood — as a bustling cosmopolitan port but also as a Malay seat of power and culture hub — with fateful consequences for Kampong Gelam’s communities.
This year is a momentous year for OH! — marking its 10th year as a charity as well as its 10th edition art walk. Past art walks have brought guests on tours around neighbourhoods such as Tiong Bahru, Holland Village and Potong Pasir. In the form of a guided tour by passionate volunteers, people get to see site-specific artworks in key public areas, private shops and homes.
