Meet Sharon Chin, the artist of Local Flora, and print your own pattern with her collaborators, Bogus Merchandise and her.
In this workshop, participants are invited to take a peek into the process of creating Local Flora, both from a pattern design and conceptual perspective, and how these patterns were brought to life through screen-printing on used fabrics.
There will be a screening of two videos selected by Sharon:
‘Between Memory and Museum’ (20 mins), a short film produced by Tara Books, an independent book publisher based in Chennai, India. Her extraordinary books are made in collaboration with local artists and craftspeople.
‘Marthe Armitage: Back to the Drawing Board’ (8 mins)isabout the British designer who produces wallpaper printed from linoblocks carved from her own hand-drawn designs.
This will be followed by a short conversation between Sharon, guest curator Sharmin Parameswaran, and Syahidah Nawar Ismail andSanan Anuar of Bogus Merchandise.
Finally there will be a screen printing demonstration using the actual patterns featured in Local Flora. For those interested in making their own print, do bring along a piece of fabric with you (preferably light-coloured and larger than A3 size) and you will be able to print a piece of Local Flora for yourself (and take it home with you)!
