As two individuals whose professional practices are placed at opposite ends of the spectrum of visual arts – Design and Fine Arts – Ginette and Hazel’s individual artistic practices meet somewhere in the middle with the craft of weaving. This commonality led them to come together to question the place of their practices within the intersections of contemporary art, design and craft.
For this exhibition, weaving as a technique is expanded into various permutations through object making, paper works and sculptures.
At this talk, Ginette and Hazel will share more about their individual artistic processes as well as how they conceptualise this show together. They would also be discussing about their chosen material and how they are selected as a mean to pay tribute and celebrate the legacies of craft practices which are often deemed as trivial or non-valuable, drawing inspirations from women’s craftwork and addressing its labour/care and at the same time, transforming them through contemporary lenses.
